About George Degan

Mr. Degan is a creative, successful, problem solver, with over twenty years of diverse leadership experience, who grew up in business. His family owned and operated the Scandinavia Inn in the “Ski Capital of the East”, Stowe, VT. He spent the early part of his career, and is still part owner, in a 75 year-old, 5th generation, family-owned business, Stuart Dean Company and helped steer the company through what most family companies experience as their most challenging time-transitioning leadership to the 3rd generation. He knows what its like.

Mr. Degan is an Executive Associate of The Institute for Independent Business International (IIBI). The Institute for Independent Business (www.iib.org.ws) is a not-for-profit research, training, and accreditation organization, established in 1984 to provide "practical advice that works", with membership exceeding 4,500 worldwide. Before his association with The Institute, Mr. Degan had over twenty years of leadership experience in Information Technology
, including starting a successful IP Telephony consulting practice.

Mr. Degan has been leading the development of IP Telephony management solutions since the industry began in the mid-1990s. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for IP Telephony management at AT&T, Mr. Degan has developed IP Telephony and LAN Management Services with business plans of $200 million in projected revenue. Mr. Degan has partnered with other solutions providers and premises equipment vendors throughout the industry. These included Avaya, Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks, AT&T, and NextiraOne, now BlackBox Network Services. With these firms he has proposed and designed networking solutions for such companies as American Express, Merrill Lynch, and Lexmark International. He has experience in all aspects of business operations, in particular:

Prior to his tenure with AT&T, Mr. Degan was an Assistant Vice President with Citibank's Project Risk Review and for 10 years in various capacities with Stuart Dean Company, a well respected private firm servicing primarily the Commercial Real Estate and Construction industries, with nearly fifty offices throughout the United States. There he managed the installation of a private line telephony and data network between the NYC headquarters and the company's 9 regional offices throughout the US; saving the company over a half million dollars in annual telephone costs and providing efficiencies in management reporting to field offices.

Mr. Degan holds a Masters of Science in Information Systems from Pace University in New York City and a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of Vermont in Burlington.
